Miami commissioners gave final approval last week to zoning changes needed for a Ferris Wheel at Bayside Marketplace.

Bayside representatives called the Ferris Wheel a “new iconic landmark,”  according to a Miami Today article last month.

Lighting on the wheel will be regulated by the city to ensure that residents are not disturbed.

The land under Bayside Marketplace is owned by the city and leased to the shopping center operator. Miami’s Waterfront Advisory Board is scheduled to review modifications to the lease next week that could allow for structures of up to 190 feet.

A skywheel ride is also planned for the Skyrise tower behind Bayside
